Provided by YP.comPhil is a good honest mechanic. You know the old saying about "Good, Fast and Cheap - pick any two." Well, Phil is good and inexpensive - but he may keep your vehicle an extra day or two.
I have had four transmissions built by Phil, and I would never go anywhere else.

Provided by YP.comI took my car in to fix a hiccup in my transmission in the beginning of 2008. A few months later I got my car back but it was worse because it had additional issues that it didn't have before. Took it back after 1 week and he kept it for 3 additional months. Within a couple weeks of this I found my car still had the exact same hiccup with the additional issues. I gave it back to him multiple times more after this to try to have the issue resolved. I was trying to be understanding since I know transmissions can be tricky, but in the end the only conclusion I could come up with is that Phil just took advantage of this patience & understanding. I tell you the truth that the shop ended up having my car more than I did for the year 2008.
One of the worst experiences I had was when the check engine light came on and I had it checked at Aamco Transmission they let me know it was transmission related. (I still have the code) At this point I was very frustrated as any normal customer would be. I took it back to him a 5th/ 6th time (lost count) and while he had the car I called Phil's weekly he would say "a wire was broken" or "A wire was frayed" (He loved to use those as the reasons he wasn't done) by the 3rd week Phil said it was done and I came quickly & unannounced – I needed my car as anyone would - Phil seemed surprised to see me. I waited an hour to get my car back it was in storage apparently and unbelievably the exact same check engine light was still on!
I was so angry with Phil’s Transmission at this point. Even then I still GAVE HIM ONE MORE CHANCE!!!!! (Unsure why) He put me in a rental car at the END of 2008 and he said he redid the whole thing transmission. I believe him, but the hiccup from 1st gear to 2nd gear was still there and now it slips and punches into 3rd. (This is all happening to this day)
Since Phil seemed to be fine with what was going on I had no choice by to put an inquiry with the BBB and with proof from multiple reputable shops indicating the same repair was necessary the BBB recommended Phil's Transmission give a refund and Phil -at first- said he would do this, but when it comes down to him following through he ended up taking a year! **See update below**
I have been EXTREMELY patient with Phil's Transmission, I can’t understand why Phil Mink would put me through this? Why out of all his customers he chose ME to do this to? Is it because I was a patient/nice guy? Does he do this to every customer and most people just give up? I just wanted my car fixed. *That’s it* I paid you like I pay wal-mart for my tooth paste. You don’t think I would be going to customer service if the cashier didn’t bag my toothpaste? If you pay for something you expect what you pay for – don’t you? What if you pay the Dr for medicine, but you get something else or an empty bottle? Wouldn’t you check into that? It’s okay for you to do it, but not anyone else? I don’t understand.
That is why I went to the BBB, Attorney General, Small Claims Court, etc.
UPDATE 4/14/10: One (1) day before the Small Claims court date Phil's Transmission wanted to settle out of court & issued me a refund.
Phil Mink should know my lawyer indicated I could have gone ahead with the court date and received more for my hardship, time without car, etc. -but I knew the owner had medical issues and this wasn't about making money it was about being fair so I accepted the refund. It took a lot of hard work, frustration, patience, and it was definitely one of the HARDEST learned experiences of my life. Phil’s Transmission wants me to delete this experience, but these events took place – I now updated to include the resolution. The only thing that would have me delete this experience is if Phil paid for the transmission fix at Sun Devil Auto. (Not including my refund) – No Calls please use mail.
