Founded in 1967, the Belafonte Tacolcy Center is one of the largest, private nonprofit youth service institutions in Miami. The center provides youth job training, sports and recreation programs. It offers computer training and drop out prevention programs. The Belafonte Tacolcy Center also provides after-care services. The center offers programs that cover various topics, such as conflict resolution, peer pressure, decision making, anger management, crime prevention, goal setting, and drug and health awareness. It serves as a community center-hosting narcotics anonymous, voter polling, community meetings and workshops. The Belafonte Tacolcy Center additionally provides prevention services for children at risk of abuse, neglect and abandonment.
