Dr. James Shaw is a board-eligible, assistant professor of orthopaedics who specializes in orthopedic trauma surgery.He holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a medical degree from the University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health and Science Center at Houston. During his residency, he was invited as a trauma fellow for additional training in Santiago, Chile and Cape Town, South Africa.Subsequently, Dr. Shaw completed a trauma fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City followed by a month at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine studying the management of infections, nonunions and malunions as well as principles of circular frame fixation and bone distraction osteogenesis.Dr. Shaw specializes in orthopedic trauma with an emphasis on complex periarticular fractures and dislocations of the extremities, pelvis and acetabulum and he has special interest in treating periprosthetic fractures, nonunions, malunions, deformity correction and infections.An active orthopaedic researcher, he has published papers in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in orthopaedic textbooks, and presented his work at national meetings. He is an active member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
