Miami Fire Department has been operational for more than 100 years. The department utilizes wet water programs, radio telemetry systems, firefighting additives and dispensing systems, and employs more than 200 doctors, firefighters and paramedics. Its divisions include fire prevention, emergency response, training, administration, management services, disaster management and public affairs, technical and support services, and communications divisions. Located in Miami, the fire department s training division oversees recruitment processes, physical fitness programs, in-service and specialized training in the areas of fire suppression and other related functions. This division also maintains books, manuals, films and other visual training aids. Additionally, the department handles personnel management functions, such as discipline, physicals, substance abuse testing, light and limited duty personnel tracking, background investigations, computer-related functions, and maintenance of communications equipment. The department employs more than 95 professional volunteer and career firefighters, offering a range of services, including medical emergency services, hazardous material operations, confined space rescue, vehicle extrication, and cold water and high angle rescue.
