The “NEW” Fire Code requires… that every building’s Fire-Rated Doors need be inspected and tested, no less than annually…and a written record of the inspection results and any repairs or modifications, must be kept in a Inspection, Testing & Maintence” log book… (the ITM log.., in any media format,) at the premises, for the (AHJ) review and varication, at any time. Owners or Managers have the right to use their own personnel to inspection and produce the record book - providing that the employees are knowledgeable of Fire Door Assemblies and capable of Inspecting ALL the Fire Door Assemblies including Testing the operation of the door and producing a ITM log book or… a qualified independent company can be hired to conduct all or part of the - Annual Fire Door Inspection…in compliance with the Fire Code and set up the ITM log book. No one desires to add more burdens or costs to the task of maintaining a building…but in many respects, this additional “Fire Code Compliance” law is a major improvement in a building’s Fire Protection and Life Safety Profile… making the building that much safer for its occupants, users and visitors as well as possibility lowering insurance costs… besides the fact that -it is also the law. BE ADVISED, THE BUILDING OWNER / MANAGER IS HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLYING WITH THIS LAW.
