I just wanted to inform the public of the horrible experience I had with Mr. Rooter this weekend. I live in Orange County,NY. I have a well and on Saturday June 30th, I woke up to no water. So, I called Mr.Rooter. They had someone at my house in 3 hours which I was very happy about. I loved that they didn't charge me to diagnose the problem. After about an hour of being down in the well pit, the technician came back up and told us he had some "bad news." First he started off by stating that he would need to pull the pump which would cost $827.27. Then he would have to dig around the well and he wasn't sure how far he had to dig to replace the pump so it would be $4163.54 for 100 feet and it would go up almost $1000 for every hundred feet. Then he said before he could even do the work, he would need to bring the well up to today's code which meant bringing the well and all its components two feet above ground. That would cost $2550.39. So your talking $3377.66 before even fixing anything. Then depending on how deep my well was it would be $3377.66 + $4163.54( or up). After hearing this unexpected, devastating news, my husband and I were very stressed out because now we still had no water with a 3 year old and a 5 month pregnant mom, and now we were being told that it is going to cost $7000+ just to get water turned back on. After me crying for hours, I received a call from another company who got 2 technicians out to my house the next morning on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. After 10 minutes, they came to the conclusion that the pump needed to be replaced. They pulled it up replaced it with it's wiring and had my water turned on an hour and a half later. They only charged me $1800 for everything. When I asked them about digging, they laughed and said nothing needed to be dug up. The well access was right there. They also stated we are grandfathered in as far as the well pit goes since our well was put in before 2008. So, after I got the work done and my water turned on, I decided I wanted to contact my local Mr.Rooter to go over my quote and tell them about my experience. Finally I spoke with a supervisor named Drew. He explained that the tech didn't "have to" make my well up to code, but they recommend it, which is not what the tech told me. He said he couldn't do work until it was up to code. And as far as the astronomical prices, he couldn't say much about that except that is what they charge and that is that. As far as the digging, he said sometimes they need to dig around the well but couldn't give me a reason why since I was able to get my water back without any digging. He ended the conversation by saying, "Well your water is turned on now so that is all that matters." It's sad that Mr.Rooter extremely over charges people and tries to get people to do things that don't have to get done to get out of a desperate situation like not having water with a child and a baby in the belly. I have already filed a complaint with the better business bureau and I am doing everything I can to make the public aware of how much they will be ripped off if they go with Mr.Rooter. It's so sad that they could do this to hard working people. Please don't even bother wasting your time with this company. You will be extremely over charged and charged for things you don't even need to fix the problem you are having.
