Provided by YP.comContractor hired May 2018 to finish attic space, including installation of dormer window. Stated from start that sheet rock must be hoisted through dormer window once installed, as stairway space was inadequate for making the turns to deliver through the home. Contract signed based on that information. At the stage of sheet rock delivery, contractor said hoisting was cost-prohibitive and materials would be carried through the house/up the stairs. He applied pressure sensitive adhesive covering on the carpet in the pass-through room and up the stairway and left in place 4 mos. When removed, the adhesive had transferred to the carpet, leaving it sticky, and buckled along the path of the covering. Contractor paid for cleaning, but refused further accountability. The covering manufacturer states never leave longer than 30 days or can lead to adhesive remaining in the carpet indefinitely, even after multiple cleanings. The buckling is unsightly, and a tripping hazard.
I immediately tried to resolve amicably (reduction in payment to cover replacement cost of carpet) were rejected, even after an offer to accept half the replacement cost. McLellan hired an attorney to sue for the balance due plus 6% interest/court fees/attorney's fees. I filed a claim with my homeowner's insurance. Investigation included photographs and collection of a carpet sample. The insurance company satisfied my claim and will subrogate, and McLellan was paid in full by me on December 12th, 2018. Case has been dismissed.
While under the supervision of McLellan, the carpet cleaners did additional damage, destroying 2 planters. Even though McLellan called to tell me the cleaning was completed, he never mentioned the damage. I found them hidden in a flower bed when I got home, and when questioned, he said he was very upset about it, but he "forgot" to tell me.
There was significant damage to the walls in the pass-through room and stairway and a roof gutter, and I was compensated for those.
