Located less than 10 miles from downtown, the Minneapolis Golf Club has been an established private golf club since 1916. In addition to the 1959 PGA Championship, MGC has been host to the Western Amateur Championship, USGA Amateur Championship, the Minnesota State Open, the Dayton's Challenge and a host of other regional and local championships. In addition, the local U.S. Open qualifying was held at the club in 2003, and the MGA Amateur Championship took place on the course in 2005. Minneapolis Golf Club membership requires two proposing sponsors as part of its application process. An application must be submitted to the membership committee and subsequently to the board of directors for approval. Established by five members of the Minneapolis Athletic Club, the golf club boasts three food and beverage locations, a world-class golf course and recently refurbished Olympic-size swimming pool with poolside food and beverage service.
