I had the unpleasant experience of Dealing with Mark and Joy Earls in a housing transaction here in Missoula. I want to let others know that these people lack integrity, are dishonest and will make whatever lies they need to justify taking as much money from you as possible. My family and I rented a home from the Earls for 3 ½ years, during that time I was praised for being their best tenant and they constantly told me how they appreciated all the upkeep and maintenance I was doing to the place. I took care of everything Mark never changed a filter fixed a water pipe or even addressed the water heater issue. I did it all with my own money and was never reimbursed.

Their attitude towards my family and I changed drastically when I gave my notice that we were buying a home. We gave 2 months’ notice and asked for a few days of fudge factor on the end just to make sure we had closed on our home. We received a rent increase/lease agreement or vacate letter, with a NO answer for any additional days. Their appreciation was gone and I was now seeing the real Earls. Ultimately my security deposit was stolen by the Earls and now I am being forced to take them to court as they feel that the laws that govern our country do not apply to them.

Mark ultimately fabricated several lies and issues with residence that were totally false. He supposedly came up with 1800$ in damage to a house that we had greatly improved since we had moved in. He refuses to provide proof or receipts for any of the “costs incurred”.

These people are dishonest and will make every attempt to steal whatever they can. If you have to deal with likes of the Earls please be vigilant and document everything. Most likely you will also need to obtain an attorney as they are shady people with no integrity.
