Louisiana State Police is a statutorily-mandated, statewide law enforcement agency. It responds to emergency calls, accidents and other police-related matters. The department offers bike patrol, case investigation, gun registration, crime prevention and emergency readiness services. Its detective section is responsible for the investigation of violent, property, white collar and economic crimes, as well as the apprehension of criminals and fugitives. Louisiana State Police operates an insurance fraud unit that is responsible for investigating referrals of suspected fraudulent insurance acts; assisting federal and local law enforcement with investigations; and promoting awareness of insurance fraud throughout the state. The police department also prevents the citizens from the illicit manufacturing, distribution, selling and use of drugs.
