Monroe Police Department is a city department that offers public safety services. It has various divisions, including administration, patrol, investigations, special response team, traffic safety and enforcement, canine unit, community intervention team, parking enforcement unit and animal control. The department s traffic unit is responsible for enforcing North Carolina Vehicle Code statutes, enforcement of local traffic ordinances and investigation of vehicle collisions. In addition, it has a speed trailer that helps in solving traffic problems. Its narcotics unit investigates illegal drug activities that occur in houses, apartments, businesses and other buildings.
