Located adjacent to the Montauk Point State Park, the museum showcases the seafaring history of the Lighthouse and offers guided tours. The Montauk Historical Society owns and operates the museum, visitor center, gift shop, and the grounds. Climb 137 steps to the deck for spectacular views of land and ocean. Visit the exhibit, "Where Land Meets Sea and Sky: Exploring Montauk History through the Richard T. Gilmartin Galleries." Among the displays are two historic documents related to the original lighthouse, one signed by George Washington and one by Thomas Jefferson. Also displays about whaling and Montauk Native Americans. Lots of fun and interest for all ages. Check for special events and schedules throughout the year.
