The Monterey Cookhouse is part of a new movement towards house-made, fresh and natural cuisine, slow cooked from scratch. Our “California Cuisine” ranges from casual to fine dining. You may feast on a hearty plate of homemade Raviolis, Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, or even a gourmet Rib Eye, wood-grilled and topped with maître d butter and served with a Twice Baked Potato and Sautéed Vegetables. Being a Cookhouse, we also have a large emphasis on Wood-Fired Cuisine and Smoked Meats. We use a Traeger Smoker, where depending on the cut, some of our meats are smoked for 10-14 hours making them melt in your mouth. We feature Smoked Game Hen, Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Baby Back Ribs, and on special occasions...our very popular Smoked Prime Rib Dinner. We use an oak-fired grill for our yummy ½ lb Hamburgers, delicious Steaks, and for the delectable Grilled Fish choices on our menu. Our wood-fired pizza oven allows us to create many of your favorite Italian inspired Thin Crust Pizzas and some of our own creations. The wood smoke and high heat of this oven lends a great flavor to these items. Our grilled Oysters on the Half Shell are becoming a local legend. I am glad a friend referred me here! The friendly customer service is excellent. The ribs are so delicious; the tortilla soup and salad bar was great.

That he needs to try the pork ...

That he needs to try the pork sliders, the & beast-burger & the Ribs, the chicken everything! I keep coming back to this place because there are two huge TV's and it's a great place to meet new people. But, more importantly they have these beers that I have never EVER seen before. One has a Jalapeno in it called Chili Devil and OMG! It is amazing with anything Pork, Meat or Chicken at the Cook-House!

Seriously, I read this review below and it was dated in 2010, I have to say; THAT was a long time ago and I did not know about the Cook-House then, but, If I can say something about it now is that it is an amzing place! Hands down. I am so for change in menus and drink selection and this place is great. Not to mention the Portions are HUGE too. I mean I take a to go box every time.

They have great wine, beer, bar and great people that do go out of their way to seriously make your visit unforgetable. The items (including the pizzas) are priced right. I mean you eat what you pay for right? You are what you eat correct? Well, the food is fresh and it is seriously a diverse menu.

I have brought friends, family and invite strangers to this place all the time. It really is a great place to visit and experience. Life is too short to not try on your own. Really. Check out the Monterey Cook House. I Highly Recommend it!

Not good

Wanted to try some place new, so gave it a try. Not good. I had the BBQ ribs, way too dry and way too much pepper. The BBQ sauce not good at all. Son had a pizza, ok, but lots of grease on top and the crust tasted like a saltine cracker. Husband had the fried chicken, outside was crispy but very greasy. Inside was very dry and bland, no flavor. The au gratin potatoes were underdone and the macaroni & cheese tasted like it had been baked in a bottled alfredo sauce. Interior was cold, no heat! Why does a BBQ place have plates with Italian wording on them?? Server was fairly attentive, but seemed like he'd rather be doing something else. Won't be going back.

Four Cousins

We had reservations and were seated after only about 5 minutes, and this is a very popular restaurant! Our waiter was very good, he had to repeat two of the specials over again for us and did so, no problem. We were served our selections in good time. Two of us are Californians and two are from Wisconsin, and aside from our contacts being infrequent, the last two connections were for funerals of siblings. Needless to say, were were catching up on each other joyfully this time, and I have to tell you, the food was good enough to keep us quiet 'til we had finished. All our contact with the wait staff was courteous, our drinks were kept filled, and our requests fulfilled.
