William Silas Garrett Elementary School, established in 1999, is a learning center for nearly 500 students in kindergarten though sixth grade. The school was named in honor of former superintendent, William Silas Garrett, under whose leadership the school system gained an accredited status with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. William Silas Garrett Elementary School has a staff of approximately 50 full-time certified teachers and paraprofessionals. It conducts a variety of special programs, such as STAR Reading, Accelerated Math, early literacy, perfect copy and Accelerated Reader. The school also supports the Alabama Reading Initiative, which is a statewide initiative managed by the Department of Education. William Silas Garrett Elementary School is a part of the Montgomery Public Schools and is located in Montgomery, Ala.
