Highland Gardens Elementary School, located in Montgomery, Ala., offers classes from grades kindergarten through six in a student-oriented environment and addresses differing learning styles. Its curriculum includes subjects, such as reading, language arts and technology. In addition to the teachers for the regular subjects, it uses support specialists in various areas, including speech and language, reading, behavior and guidance counseling. Its special education program and specific individualized education plan supports students with special needs to help them overcome areas of weakness. Gifted students who perform at high levels in academic fields when compared to others are given special support beyond the regular school program.
