Montgomery Area Transit System provides shared transportation services, and is headquartered in Montgomery, Ala. The city of Montgomery purchased the Montgomery Area Transit System in 1974, and contracted the American Transit Corporation to operate it. All Montgomery transit buses have lifts, and are accessible to people with disabilities. The Montgomery area paratransit program is for people aged 6 and above who are unable to use Montgomery area transit fixed-route services. The transit system has acquired more than 17 modern low-floor, heavy-duty transit buses, over 20 Goshen vans, and a 1956 historic Cleveland avenue bus, and has one of the most state-of-the-art fleets in United States.
