Dr. Sugarman is a third generation physician who has chosen the Lake Norman area based on strong family roots established by his father Daniel I. Sugarman, MD (now retired) who practiced as a Cardiologist in Mooresville as part of the Sanger Vascular Institute. Dr. Joel Sugarman received his Bachelors degree in Zoology from the University of Florida where he graduated as Valedictorian. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Sugarman remained at Wake Forest for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Molecular Genetics as well as for a categorical internal medicine internship. Dr. Sugarman completed his residency training in Dermatology at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) where he received strong dermatologic surgical training within the focus of evaluation and management of cutaneous malignancy. Dr. Sugarman has recently been awarded an adjunct faculty position with University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Medical School and greatly enjoys his teaching role with medical students.
