Provided by YP.comI stopped at O'Leary's on July 10th, 2012, after work with some friends to have a few drinks before going to the fair. I had forgotten to get cash at work so I was forced to use their ATM machine since they don't take checks. I requested $80 since I had to pay $2.50 to get my own money out of my account. The machine only dispensed a single $20 bill, said there was an error and told me to contact the attendant, which I assumed (correctly) was the bartender. It took him a good 20 (if not half an hour) to get the machine apart and back together while I waited. After he got it back together I asked him if it was going to charge me another $2.50 to get my remaining $60 and he said “yes it will, sorry”. The apology didn’t even seem sincere. I told him I didn’t think that that was fair since it wasn’t my fault the machine was out of money. He told me that it was actually jammed, not out of money so I pointed out to him that that was not my fault either and asked him if he could give me $2.50 so I could get my remaining $60. He said no, he couldn’t do that. I asked him why not and didn’t really get an answer. He claimed it was the banks fault that the money jammed so I told him that he could give me $2.50 and get it back from the bank and he said he wasn’t going to do that. So I said fine, give me the name of the bank and I would go get my $2.50 from them, but he refused to do that and confessed that the machine belonged to them. So I asked him if he thought it was fair to me that I pay $5 now to get my original $80? I asked to talk to the manager and unfortunately for me I already was which was what I was afraid of. I tried to point out that I was pretty sure the bar could with stand losing $2.50 verses losing a pretty good customer and he accused me of being pathetic to stop coming back there over $2.50. That’s when I decided it was time to leave and never go back. I used to go there quite a bit for lunch, but after the way I was treated I won’t. There’s a lot more to the story, but I’ll spare you the rest of the details. I just want to know what happened to customer service? Or the “customer’s always right”? I know it was only $2.50, and it’s not going to break me, but it was their machine and it sure wasn’t going to break them either. I’ve been in plenty of other bars where they’ll let me write a check for cash, or will give you a buck if the pool table jams or even let you play the jukebox for free to keep a customer. Those are the places I’ll go back to. Not a bar like this that even charges you 50 cents extra for onions on your burgers (and the burgers aren’t that great anyway). I would be writing a whole different review had he been nice and made my first ATM experience in 18 years more pleasant.
