About Us Norwest Surveying Services, Inc began as a full service Professional Land Surveying Firm in June of 1996 with the acquisition of the records and equipment of Vander Schaaf & Associates, a small, part time Land Surveying business located at 203 East Knox Street in Morrison, Illinois. Vander Schaaf & Associates had two ( 2 ) full time employees and no computers or computerized equipment. The survey records dated back to 1973 and Norwest Surveying Services, Inc maintains all of those plats and records to this day. As part of the acquisition and start-up Norwest Surveying Services, Inc purchased their first computers, cadd software and digital printing and plotting hardware. Since that time the firm has updated and expanded those capabilities to include eight ( 8 ) networked computers running the latest MicroSoft, Autocad, MicroStation, Eagle Point and QuickBooks Pro software. Printing and plotting capabilities have matured to include Sharp copiers, Hewlett-Packard color printers and plotters and an Oce' large format digital copier/printer. All of the data collected since 1996 is digital and stored as retrievable back-ups. Our database of projects has grown to more than 7000 projects that can be retrieved instantaneously and incorporated into the research for all of our new projects. Since our inception, Norwest Surveying Services, Inc has strived to stay on the cutting edge of surveying technology. In 1998 we acquired our first Real Time Kinematic ( RTK ) Global Positioning System ( GPS ). This system was added to our existing digital measurement arsenal to give us the ability to incorporate the High Accuracy Resolution Network ( HARN ) of State Plane Coordinates into every project. Using this system, and the two ( 2 ) additional systems that we have acquired since, we have the ability to measure between points as far as sixteen miles apart with accuracy of 1/8th inch horizontally and vertically. Our Sokkia Digital Total Stations have angular accuracy of 1 arc second and horizontal accuracy of 1 ppm. This measuring equipment is mated to our digital field computers ; our fleet of 4wd Chevrolet Avalanche Survey vehicle and Honda 4wd ATVs to helps us provide the highest quality, most accurate and efficient field crews in the region. No project is too big, too small or too inaccessible for us to complete. In 1999 we moved our operations to 301 East Lincolnway in Morrison and base our operations from there to this day. The move allowed us to expand our office space, organize our records and update our systems and staff to compete in an increasingly competitive market. Today we have the equipment and staff to field three ( 3 ) field crews. Our technical staff is highly trained and averages more than seven ( 7 ) years of experience. We currently employ three ( 3 ) experience crew chiefs and a full time computer draftsman. Each of the staff has the training to accomplish any task that our projects demand. Over the years we have served statewide, local and national clients. Our clients include the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Department of Conservation, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Historical Preservation Agency, Waste Management, Inc, McDonald's, K-Mart, Applebee's, the Boy Scouts of America, Whiteside County, Carroll County, Clinton County, Jo Daviess County, Jackson County, the Union Pacific Railroad, the Burlington-Northern & Sante Fe Railroad, local Community and State Development Agencies and the Cities of Sterling, Rock Falls, Morrison, Coleta, Fulton, Erie, Albany, Mt. Carroll, Savanna, Milledgeville, Thomson, Cordova, Prophetstown, Lyndon, Erie and Clinton and Camanche, Iowa, just to name a few. We have provided services to all of the area banks, lenders, realtors, attorneys and title companies.
