Provided by YP.comI was a substitute teacher t this school. Most people were kind, but there is an undercurrent of racism in Lawrence County as in the rest of Alabama. Black people stay in their places. I enjoyed subbing and loved the children, but two boys wrote something awful. They were made to apologize and were suspended. School ended days later. I was satisfied with how the school handled this problem, dissatisfied with how it handled an earlier problem. I think race was a factor then too. I had also seen a Nazi symbol on a paper a student submitted in another class. I ignored it. After the last incident, I made an appointment with the superintendent but cancelled it. I had learned in Huntsville that youths were used like the Hitler Youth. They photographed me with cell phones to be harassed elsewhere.I had criticized Nazism. I cancelled the appointment. My ancestors were slaves in Lawrence County, and my more recent ancestors had been victims there. The people who run the county and possibly the superintendent may be part of the same families that victimized mine decades ago and know who I'm connected to. The school administration in Moulton handled me with the heavy handed glove of racism with which it treated my ancestors. I had been humiliated by kids, so they fired me as a substitute with no explanation. There are few Black students at this school and fewer if any Black teachers. You cannot expect kids to behave well and respect Black people when you have administrators that treat Blacks with the same lack of sensitivity and injustice as their ancestors did. The children will notice I am no longer working there. Some will be embarrassed. Others will think that the two children that wrote "Nigger Bitch" on their computers when I was their teacher were cool. Their ignorant racist patents might laugh. It's up to Lawrence County to educate children and grownups to treat all human beings with dignity and justice. My parents fled North Alabama. I'm standing my ground.
