Provided by YP.comFrom my review it is obvious that our experience was not in any way a positive one. Some seem to benefit from this setting and that is wonderful for them. The key is to find the school culture and services that best meet your child's needs. I encourage you to check everything that is told to you. Don't rush, take time and do your research.
Check the other reviewers profiles. Especially the more recent ones. Do they even live in the state? Are they friends of friends of the school and are just putting up a review to "help"? Are they teachers at the school? Use sites such as aihitdata to see the changes made to the school's website over time. There are many. Ask questions. Know the difference between being registered with the state and accredited. It is huge. Know that with a donation of $300.00 or more anyone can display a certificate of membership from the International Dyslexia Association. Membership does not require you to provide any documentation regarding your qualifications. It gives you access to resources and allows you to publish the name of your school or self in a directory. Know that places like Lindamood Bell offer training courses, but you can only be a Lindamood Bell consultant if you work at Lindamood Bell. Training that some teachers hold in comprehension by Bowman Educational Services is offered over three evenings in 9 hours and a certificate is issued at the end of the last class. Don't take my word for it. Call these places. Orton-Gillingham is a great program. Only two teachers were qualified to teach it at the time of our attendance and it is only useful for children who mainly struggle with decoding. Again, look it up. Don't take my word for it.
Finally, go to the District Court in Howard County and request transcripts of any cases.
While attending this school costs significantly less than attending accredited, reputable schools such as Jemicy, Odyssey, The Baltimore or DC Lab Schools find out why. What are those schools offering that this one doesn't? Good luck. I sincerely hope that you find the right fit for your child.
