Founded in 1904, the Mount Airy Fire Department is responsible for providing fire protection, prevention and suppression services. It operates various stations and maintains a fleet of engines and command units, as well as a brush unit, aerial device and utility truck. The Mount Airy Fire Department conducts many fire and life safety educational sessions for businesses, homeowners, retirement centers, nursing homes, hospital staffs, city employees and civic groups. The fire department utilizes a variety of educational tools and methods, such as puppets, robots and child safety trailers. Additionally, it provides training to staff members in the areas of fire safety, code enforcement, hydrant maintenance and emergency medical response.
