The first mayor of Mount Clemens, Joshua Dickinson, built this Italianate house in 1869. His daughter Katherine, the great-granddaughter of city founder Christian Clemens, and his son-in-law, George M. Crocker moved into the house after their marriage in 1870. Crocker, a former prosecuting attorney and justice of the peace, became mayor upon Dickinson’s death. Mount Clemens was known as the great health and pleasure resort of Michigan. People from all over the world and from all walks of life came to Mount Clemens for the healing powers of mineral baths. A visit will take you back in time to when the Crocker family lived in the home and also offer a glimpse into Mount Clemens' famous Mineral Bath era. Many art pieces are also on display by local artist Franklin Harold Hayward. Museum also offers many special and educational programs including a Cemetery Walk, Garden Walk, Garden and Christmas Teas, Etiquette Classes, and historical lectures. March through December, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and the first Sunday of each month, excluding holidays, 1 - 4 p.m. Other times by appointment.
