If you're looking for a friendly, welcoming congregation to connect with other like-minded individuals and become part of a caring community of people, keep looking.

Like any church, there are some very dedicated, sincere, and genuinely nice people who attend the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie. However, they're overshadowed by a clique of a dozen or so seventy-somethings who run the church with an iron fist for their own self-serving purposes, regardless of who officially governs the church on its board of trustees. Appearances mean everything to this group, and as a result, the church has a very "Stepford-esque" atmosphere...lots of insincere smiles and nods. The services come across as tired and stale, and the same scripted "welcome" message has been read every week for years.

This clique can best be described as smug, elitist, arrogant, condescending, and pretentious. Maintaining their control is far more important to these individuals than the long-term well-being of the congregation or its mission.

Many people check out this church, but very few ever stay for the long-term. The most common reason...they don't feel welcome. Some have described this church as a country club for retired Ball State University professors, and that's essentially what it has become. The church doesn't even enjoy a good reputation within its own denomination, often being referred to derisively as the "church in the woods."

Save yourself some time and heartache, and avoid this place.
