My just turned 5 yr old suffered from heat exhaustion after a day of jumping in their No A/C facility for 8 hrs. The 2 gallon water jugs for about 20 kids were empty, no cups. Manager in another area of facility with back turned unsupervising children while she sat and watched TV. My child was disorientated, lethargic, had a headache, was nauseous, had high temp from lack of rest, cool down, water, and electrolyte imbalance. It was 100 degrees outside, who knows the temp inside this metal box facility. There were no accommodations for kids to cool off. Heat stroke is very dangerous in children as they are more prone than adults. We (her parents) are both in the medical field, with my fiance being an MD, and this facility is unacceptable, unethical, abusive and neglectful. I have posted the guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics on their Facebook page and they immediately took it down, knowing that they are in violation. If I could give them zero stars I would. Heat stroke is life threatening. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE! I was told by the teenager with the kids, "If I offer her water, I can't make her drink it". However, cold compresses can be put on top of the head to cool the body down. Keeping your feet slightly elevated will help with hypovolemia and bringing blood flow back to the heart. Plus so many other things to cool down a heat exhausted small child.
