The department operates a building maintenance division that services fire and security alarms, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. The division monitors the temperature and airflow of buildings and provides electrical and plumbing repairs. Its engineering division utilizes computers, surveying equipment, global positioning systems, computer-aided designs, plotters and digitizers. Its recycling and composting center provides curbside programs. The equipment division maintains a fleet of vehicles. The department's highway and sanitation division provides crosswalk painting, warning signs design, drainage catch basins cleaning, street sweeping, potholes patching, street paving and gravel pit maintenance. The sewer division supervises water meter installation and backflow prevention device testing.
