What happened ???

My husband and I often shop thrift. Some shops are down-right nasty. We have always enjoyed shopping the Burbank Discovery Shop, but this last time we were in the shop things were not so pleasant. We noticed right-away that the shop was not neat and clean, hangers and dust-balls on the floor. The all the dressing rooms had clothes on the floor from other customers. The front of the store had several tables piled high with mostly damaged clothes. My husband noted the shelves looked liked we were shopping in an indoor swapmeet. In the past, someone working the shop always greeted us. We only saw the youngman in the backroom and he never came out. Over all, the prices were much higher then the last time we were in. For example, "Plummer's" like leather sofa about $2500., it's a recession, it should be half that. Did management change? The overall feeling my husband and I had was the " unique quality resale experience " is mostly out the window. It looks like management stopped caring about the shop. Times are hard, but should the customer not have a pleasant place to shop and fair prices? We hope the Discovery Shop gets their act together. Our rating is, the shop needs to find it's way back to providing a pleasant shopping experience and fair pricing /deals.

Dear Being Helpful, I am so sorry to read that you were disappointed with the Burbank shop on this particular visit. Please note that on the day in question the shop was holding a Designer Sample Event. The tables of "damaged" item were placed out just for this event and were all Designer Samples. Many customers were thrilled to buy BCBG and other name brands at less than $10.00. The sofa you described was a custom sofa worth the $2500.00 it was listed. We realize it may not be in everyone's budget, however the people that bought it were thrilled with the wonderful find. On a regular basis we do our best to stock a large variety of merchandise to meet every person's budget. Regarding the management, ACS is still the owner and operator of the Burbank shop and we want you to know that your comments have been taken under advisement and we have adressed many of the issues mentioned. Please come by the shop and see the many changes that are having a positive impact on the shop and as we raise money for cancer research, advocacy and care; a positive impact of the lives of people in your community. Again, thank you for sharing your opinion and I hope I have adressed your concerns. Please feel free to contact me through our website, www.cancer.rg/discovery. Sincerely, Regina M Schmitz
