I just feel the need to express my disappointment with a company based in Venice. I try to shop locally when possible so I had my lawn re-sodded due to requirement of my homes association (Jacaranda West) by Wes Bailey Sodding here in Venice. Wes came out 3 times to measure my front lawn. The first time was in January and the estimate came in at $650.00 and some change. I agreed to have them do the work for me but asked if I could wait until the end of May in hopes the rainy season would start to cut back on using county water as much as I could to get the new sod established. They agreed to this and assured me the price given would still be valid at the end of May. He even came back out in April to re-measure. A week before I requested the work done I contacted them to make sure we were still on scheduled because I had given written notice to my HOA that the work would be completed Memorial weekend. I received a reply back that Wes would need to measure my lawn again (3rd time) to insure the quote was accurate and due to the increase in price of sod (understandable) the price would change. I received the new quote a day later (3 pallets of sod) with an increase of $50.00. Still understandable due to the increase in sod prices and I told them to go ahead as planned. They came on Friday 5/23/14 and removed the old sod. This allowed me the weekend to prepare for the new sod to be laid on Tuesday 5/27/14. Tuesday morning Wes and his crew arrived as scheduled and started laying the sod. Before the job was completed, they ran out of sod. Again, he measured the lawn 3 different times prior to the installation. He told me he would have to go get more sod to finish the job. Soon after he left I received a call from his wife saying there would be an increase of $238.00 in my bill due to the fact he had to get another pallet of sod. Did I mention Wes measured 3 times prior to installation??!! After the sodding was completed, he ended up only needing about ½ a pallet of sod. I was unaware of that until after I had already paid him and I noticed the left over sod on his truck. I asked him if that was my leftover and he said yes. I asked him kindly to unload it since I DID pay for it and he did. When I told him “I’m sorry, I cannot refer you to anyone with a clear conscience with this last minute increase in price after verifying via emails that the total price would be $735.00” his reply was “It doesn’t matter to me, I have more business than I know what to do with anyway” (very unprofessional). I’m from the mid-west where when someone give you a price quote on a job, they honor that price. Especially since the last quote was less than a week old! I think an extra $238.00 is outrageous but at that point I didn’t have a choice. Just saying beware!! This is from the paid invoice:
