Shelter Our Sisters is a private, nonprofit organization that assists women and children who are victims of domestic violence, including emotional, economic, sexual and physical abuse. It provides emotional support and emergency and transitional housing services. The organization operates a 24-hour helpline service that provides crisis intervention on a variety of issues, including notifying the police and how to obtain a restraining order. Shelter Our Sisters additionally offers emergency shelters to victims, as well as support services, such as individual and group counseling, legal advocacy, referrals to community resources, work readiness career training and a children's program. It offers a preschool program that includes tutoring sessions, recreational activities and community trips children between the ages of 2 and 5. The organization is located in Hackensack, N.J.
