The unit also offers investigation services related to physical, mental and emotional abuse. Child Protection Services is a unit of the Roanoke County Department of Social Services, which offers foster care, adoption, energy assistance and volunteering services. Located in Salem, Va., the department also provides respite care, family support and transportation services. The Roanoke County Department of Social Services administers the Food Stamp Program, which includes financial assistance services for low-income individuals and families to purchase food. In addition, the department offers investigation and child support enforcement services. It additionally administers the Medicaid program, which is a federal program that includes medical assistance services.
