The Chilton/Shelby Mental Health Center is a public, nonprofit organization that is administered by the Alabama Council for Community Mental Health Boards and is certified by Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation in Alabama. Established in 1972, the Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards comprises various regional mental health boards and mental health and substance abuse agencies. The council acts as a liaison between members, federal agencies, state legislatures and the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. It organizes conferences and continuing education workshops for psychologists, counselors, nurses, teachers, consumers, family members and other mental health professionals. The Chilton/Shelby Mental Health Center maintains a location in Calera, Ala.
