Colby Plumbing & Mechanical is a third-generation family business since 1912 specializing in both commercial and residential services for plumbing, heating, and air conditioning services, repairs and installations. Mike Colby, president and general manager, is a third-generation plumber. He has a wide and diverse work history that is uncommon in the plumbing industry today. Mike has been a Licensed Master Plumber since 1989. His experience started with small residential units while working for the family business and grew to include repair of high-rise buildings, hospitals, industrial complexes, residential complexes and even a nuclear power plant. Mike served in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of rescue and patrol vessels. He has been successful in instilling his knowledge of emergency response to his workforce and adapting it to the needs of the mechanical industry.

terrible plumber

This plumbing company is NO good. There are so many good plumbers to choose in the yellow pages. I do NOT recommend Colby Plumbing of Highlands New Jersey. Very sloppy and will leave a mess in your home.

Do not recommend

The first time I called Colby was to replace my hot water heater and kitchen faucet. Larry gave me a fair price on the phone. Mike showed up to do the actual plumbing two hours late on a Saturday and after the work was complete, asked for an additional $50 because it was "harder than he thought" to replace my kitchen faucet. That was in January. Yesterday (March) I called because my commode seemed to be loose and my tiles were wet on the floor so I thought there was a leak somewhere. Mike quoted me $150 to come and reset the toilet. He talks nonstop from the minute he enters until the minute he leaves. He showed up at 1:15 and left at 2:50 p.m. charging me $235 instead of $150. I questioned it and he said since he was there for 2 hours(?) he was charging me $200 labor and $35 materials instead of the original quote of $150. The materials consisted of a screw that was loose connecting the top of my toilet to the bottom and that's why it was leaking. He continued to rant on about other jobs he's done and how hard he works and blah blah blah. I will not use Colby Plumbing again and do not recommend them. (sorry!)

Fixed our plumbing disaster fast!

My wife called me at work to tell me pipes burst and were spraying everywhere and soaking our cabinets.

I work an hour away and certainly didn't have a yellowpages phone book at work. Being the first place I'd think normally to look for a plumber would be the yellowpages, I figured I'd just log onto yellowpages.com. This was my first experience with yellowpages.com and Colby Plumbing was great. They were at our house within about 30 minutes and fixed the problem right away and their fee was fair.

I also had them out since then to give us an estimate for a new gas boiler and we decided to go with them for that too. The new Weil McLain boiler is now in our home and it's great. It's high efficiency and is saving us money.
