A crew from Compass Tree Care recently visited my home and took down a tree as well as cutting back broken branches off of two others. The price was a bit above market, but the offer of same-day service has been tough to locate this winter, so We made a deal.



Despite the business card’s pledge of “complete cleanup and GREAT care”, I saw little of either from the Compass crew. The smoking and cursing I can tolerate – I’m a workingman myself – but after taking down the maple branch, three members of the crew proceeded to heave the logs across my yard like they were in some highlander-style competition. I recognize moving many plus-size logs isn’t easy, but these men gave no consideration to what might be harmed beneath the snow (landscaping, etc.), to say nothing of the obvious safety concern.



The following day, I discovered the crew had basically worn muddy ditches where they had marched back yard to front and where the branches had been cut. The area just off the driveway near where their trailer was parked was littered with tree brush, the cutting areas were covered in leaves and small branches, and a large branch from the felled tree was was lying on a nearby rhododendron. The stump isn’t a clean or level cut. Simply put, I’ve had professional tree work done on multiple occasions in the past, and it was superior to Compass in every respect.



Four days later the log pile built by the Compass crew had tumbled over. My experience is Compass does sloppy, dangerous, shoddy work and will leave you with a mess to clean.
