Drink At 18 is a California Corporation founded in 2009 to inspire young adults to fight for their rights to be treated equally, and to regain the ability to purchase and consume alcoholic beverages responsibly. Right now millions of young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 - the vast majority in the United States - already consume alcohol. They are forced to do so secretly and as criminals because of outdated and poorly conceived state laws that are increasing irresponsible consumption by encouraging binge drinking, forcing young adults to hide their behavior, and discouraging necessary education on responsible drinking by colleges and universities. Even law enforcement officials acknowledge that these Prohibition-style laws cannot be effectively enforced any longer. They point out that millions in taxpayer dollars are being wasted each year pursuing and charging responsible young adults with illegal possession of alcohol. These cases are tying up the courts and probation systems when these funds could and should be better spent catching more serious offenders including those at every age who drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
