Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.

Horrible

I came here for a nice dinner at about 630 pm Saturday September 27th, 2014. My husband and I ate which the food was fine. We both wanted to get a margarita since we saw a signed that they were votes the best Margaritas in Dallas, TX. We get it and we didn't really like it. We told the waitress that we didn't like the Margarita asked the waitress if there was anyway we can have Strawberry added to the Margarita she said ok. 10 minutes later the manager comes to the table and says that if we want a Margarita with Strawberry we have to pay $6.00 and I said we weren't asking you to make a NEW Margarita with Strawberry we said that we just wanted some strawberry added to the one that was already made. He said that he can't do that. So I said forget we will take our Margarita the manager didn't even bring our Margarita back to the table. We had to pay for a Margarita that we barely drank. I just think that was unprofessional and I didn't feel that we should have paid for a Margarita that we didn't get to drink. My husband and myself had maybe one sip from our drink. To have to pay for something we didn't even get to enjoy was just unbelievable. I will never come back to El Fenix again and that was my first time being there.

Family favorite

Always good food and service. Just too bad they charge more for weekend lunches than during the week.
