My daughter's classroom was extremely negative. It was being taught by a former corrections officer who was rude and abrasive. My daughter came home every day in tears and told me she was afraid of her teacher. When we sought out a classroom change and shared our concerns with administration, we were treated terribly. They have a zero classroom/teacher change policy. The vice principal shared my letter with the teacher, informing her of what my child had complained about prior to even discussing it with me, pulled my child out of class, interrogated her like a criminal with no parents present and without our knowledge and then sent her back to class with a target on her head. They refused to switch her class, told me my daughter was a liar, and said that my child's opinion was none of their concern. I called the board members and received no response. I heard back from the Principal one week after all of this happened and he offered to pack my children's supplies personally because they have a list with hundreds of students ready to fill my child's spot if we don't like their policies! You sign away your rights on the parent contract. There is no accountability or repercussions for their bad behavior. This is why Charter Schools are terrible. They only care about the money your child is worth to them. If you are not successful or happy with their school, they could care less. If you choose to send your child here, know that you will like it until there is an issue. At which time, no-one will care or help.

My children attended FRANKLIN academy Charter School in Cooper City for 2 years. I was on PTO and a room parent. I INVESTED insane amounts of my own money into this school. After helping them so much, they refused to help us. Besides their complete lack of supplies, lack of a gym, no science fair, no cohesive education plans, and claiming that they have a no homework policy but giving you hours of homework a night, they really do not care about the kids. It's all about the money your child gets them. My daughter's classroom was extremely negative. It was being taught by a former corrections officer who was rude and abrasive. They also kept $200 worth of school Supplies after I withdrew both of my kids 2 weeks into the school year.

So much for a no homework policy. My child has homework almost every night until 9 or 10pm. I know times have changed since I was in school but lets be realistic.

My daughter just started Kindergarten at Franklin Academy Pembroke Pines this school year and I can not express how happy I am with the school and her teacher. There are open lines of communication, my daughter is excited every day to go to school, she loves the activities and specials offered and we are beyond happy with what she's learned and it is only the first quarter of school. I see some of the negative reviews and it is hard to comprehend. The principal & assistant principals are all very accommodating and want to help each parent & student adapt as well as possible. It is school of choice and I am so very happy we made the right choice for my daughter. It is a wonderful family/community environment.

This is my son's second year and it is turning out to be as bad or even worst from last year. The FCAT scores are not all they are cracked up to be. Please check out the sixth grade scores to really get a picture of the the quality of teachers. The surrounding public school have similar scores of 8 and 9. Franklin is not far from being a 8 school as far as test scores go. Most of their test scores actually went down from their first year. The first year scores were a nine because of the schooling the children received from mostly public school education and it was not a product of the schooling they received from Franklin. The pick up is a total nightmare. I've arrived at the appropriate time only to wait for 1hour and 15 min. My family will be moving next year and I'm so happy to put Franklin behind us. As far as charter schools this is an extremely mediocre school . No science fair for elementary, no gym or covered PE area, no auditorium, or Holiday shows for k-5.

Franklin Academy out beat the district public school FCAT ratings by far!! The proof is in the pudding. Tells you alot about the quality of the teachers in this school, people on this site are claiming to be inexperienced. Maybe thats what the district needs , fresh talent. My son has been in this school since it started and he has been performing better each year. Most of his classmates also started with the school and still attending. The good thing is that it is a school of choice, and its my choice and I am happy with it.

Administrators demonstrate inexperience, and inconsistency. Appears budget rather than quality is priority to Board (ie- bad food vendor continues, chess not offered equally to all grades, not enough PE - only once a week, and middle grades half a year, not enough support in areas of specific need). Lack of leadership demonstrated. Screaming and intimidation management style for students - very rude. What behavior is then to be expected in return? Lack of safety prevails - no screening of volunteers, bullying, belongings disappear, at pick up students not found, confusion - administration not good communicators. Electronic means of communicating with parents not current. Attitude overall defensive. Good efforts - clean and beautiful campus, good aftercare, pick up automatic reader in car windshield, but entering number in pad bad - have requested wrong children - not enough follow up by administrators. Good for auditorium plans - early grades will be

School promises a lot but doesn't deliver on those promises. Chess not taught in classes even though they promise they would. Little to no activities for k-2 grades. Most teachers with less than 3 years of experience. Much of the staff is rude and defensive. The school has no interest in science and they don't report the science scores for the lower grades as to promote a false school grade. Car pick up is still a nightmare despite improvements wait time is anywhere from 30-45min when you arrive on time. The school distances themselves from parents and do not promote parent involvement other than volunteering for lunch help or car line. There is NO PTA in the school. Parents are not allowed to walk children to school . There are no park and walk up options. Franklin Academy is more like a fast food franchise as they are more interested in opening up more Franklin schools than improving the first one they open. In other words it is a business.

All teachers have to start somewhere right? So saying a teacher only has 2 years experience is a terrible thing to hold against a school. Also Franklin is in it's first year, anyone who expected things to run perfectly is out of their mind. You took a chance by sending your child to a BRAND NEW school. Do them some justice and keep them at Franklin and let them grow with the school. And remember your child's education doesn't start and end at school. I agree some of the teachers at this school seem a little rude and uninterested in educating, but that's true for EVERY SCHOOL, not just Franklin. Also remember to DO YOUR job as parent and stop blaming the school because your child doesn't behave/won't do the work.

I am a student at Franklin Academy and this is by far the WORST school I have ever been to. The teachers dont teach you anything(they are under qualified), Those of you who write positive comments means that you work there. I have nothing against you its your opinion and you can express it, but i am going to express mine, I HATE THIS SCHOOL! THANK GOD I AM GOING TO A REALLY GOOD SCHOOL NEXT YEAR. By the way, the least that Broward County School can give us is a good education. My parents pay a lot of taxes and we are not getting anything in return in this school.

I believe this to be an amazing school. For those of you who don't think so, take your child out and go somewhere else so you can allow another child the opportunity at a great education from caring and supportive teachers who put in their 100 percent. My child attends this school and I couldn't be happier. If car line wait time is the biggest of your concerns, consider yourself lucky. If you don't like it, put them on the bus, or leave your house earlier. Learn patience and be grateful that your child is getting the best education offered in Broward County.

Guest46857 - Since when did YOUR child's behavior become JUST the responsibility of the teacher. There is a strong connection between HOME and SCHOOL, and as much as YOU may like to think so, it's not just the teachers responsibility. With no home support, expect your child's behavior to stay the same. And isn't the saying true, 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree'. Maybe you should check yourself?!

APoor teacher quality, lack of parent involvement...treating students differently...whats acceptable for one student should be the norm for all. This school has been a nightmare for our family, parent think twice before register your kids. local favorite, or highly recommended because

I have 3 kids in this school K, 4,&5. My kids are learning so much. My K went from barely reading to reading at 2nd grade level! I have wonderful teachers and good communication. I love the fact that you can volunteer whenever you want to. As far as traffic issue most has been resolved. It takes me 15-20min . Other Charter schools have the same wait time. Franklin has some issues to iron out but I expected this for the first year. My concern was Education and my kids are getting a good education!

My daughter attends this school and I am very happy. I have a very open line of communication with her teacher and the drop off line in the morning moves very quickly now. There is not much parking for school functions but that would be my only complaint. This is the very first year for this school and we all had to anticipate there would be some confusion for different procedures. We are pleased.
