I've been using Hicks for many years. I have two 100 lb. propane tanks at a park model trailer in Antioch that we use as a summer home. Hicks has always been most responsive when the tanks needed to be refilled/replaced and at a price we feel was fair and appropriate. Last spring my water softener died and I called Hicks for a rental, based on a friends positive experience. Again, the crew came out, removed the old softener and all the extra salt and installed the new one. They gave me the manual and went over the controls and recommendations. It really was pretty straight forward. I couldn't give them a higher recommendation. They have always been "First Rate".

I am new to Lake Villa and unused to well water. My water has an egg (sulphur) smell to it so I was told that I would need to buy a water softener. They are expensive to say the least. When I found out that I could rent a water softener, I was thrilled! I contacted Hicks gas about the rental. I was told firstly that I would need to have a plumber relocate my plumbing. The plumbing needed to be moved up from the crawlspace of the house. Hicks does not have anyone they contract to do this (even though they come across this problem regularly). So, I had to find my own plumber to relocate the plumbing. When that was done, I contacted Hicks again. They sent two guys out to install the water softener. These guys did not say a single word to me. When they were done, they just left. They explained NOTHING to me. So, again I called Hicks. I was told that i would need to check the water softener in about a month to make sure the salt was 2/3 full. However, the workers had never filled the salt to begin with! I found this out myself when I checked the salt a week later because I still had hard water. I would not recommend Hicks to anyone.
