Homesafe Inspection South
* NOTE: HomeSafe does not claim that IR can literally see through walls. Under the right or properly controlled conditions, infrared allows a trained operator to make determinations about what is happening behind the wall based on the surface temperature of the wall and differences in the building material's thermal properties. HomeSafe's technologies arose from two very different sciences: infrared imaging, which is essentially photographs of heat, and acoustics, the science of sound. HomeSafe co-founder Peng Lee decided to merge the two technologies while working on a U.S. Department of Agriculture-funded project at the University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) in the 1990s. He first designed and built a highly sensitive, state-of-the-art acoustic device that could literally hear the unique sounds made by certain nuisance insects. He later added infrared to his high-tech array, enabling him to quickly scan a house for hidden moisture that might be related to termite infestations, then to employ the acoustic sensors in those "suspicious" areas to listen for termite noise. Finally, he and his NCPA colleagues developed a specialized type of software to analyze and confirm the termite sounds quickly and objectively. Lee left NCPA and teamed with entrepreneur Kevin Seddon to found HomeSafe in March, 2003. A few months later, HomeSafe awarded its first infrared home inspection franchise in north-central Mississippi and Memphis, Tenn. The concept quickly caught fire; HomeSafe now has franchises and licensed users operating or soon to begin operations across the U.S., including Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas, Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon and Minnesota. HomeSafe has been featured in the New York Times, the Tulsa World, the Commercial Appeal (Memphis), the Clarion-Ledger (Jackson, Miss.), the Sun-Herald (Biloxi-Gulfport, Miss.), the Memphis Business Journal, the Mississippi Business Journal, the Daily Journal (Tupelo, Miss.) and many other newspapers around the U.S. HomeSafe Pledge HomeSafe is committed to providing the world's most advanced, accurate, thorough and scientifically objective home inspections. All HomeSafe inspectors are highly trained in both traditional inspection techniques as well as the most effective usage of cutting-edge infrared, acoustic and pattern recognition technologies and infrared home inspection protocols. Every HomeSafe inspector is empowered to, in effect, "see" and "hear" through a house's walls, floors and ceilings, uncovering a significant amount of additional information than can be obtained in a traditional inspection alone. Thus, HomeSafe inspectors provide the most detailed and comprehensive home inspection reports available anywere. Services HomeSafe licensed users offer a range of specialized services for home buyers, home sellers and homeowners. Availability differs from state to state, but these services include: Infrared Home Inspections Traditional Home Inspections Infrared/Acoustic Termite Detection
