Honey Badger Massage
A little about me: I practice massage with a license from the State of Colorado (#0015141, expires 1/31/2015), and I am trained in western-style and Thai-style bodywork. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with a 200-hour credential from the Yoga Alliance.
About my massage practice: I would first like to emphasize that it is my priority to keep my massage practice respectful, professional, and legitimate. The work I provide can vary in intensity, but it tends to provide a very deep release that is particularly helpful to athletes and those who suffer from chronic pain and/or tightness. The work typically does not use broad, deep pressure, but rather uses my sense of touch to first warm muscles and fascia while I find where binding has occurred; I then use fairly targeted work to achieve deep opening of the body's soft tissues. I am not rigid in my practice - I view this work as necessarily informed by compassion. If a particular site or body part is too tender to be worked on, it should be allowed to rest and then revisited at a later time. I work to communicate with clients and truly establish a baseline for what is too intense versus the right amount of release.
I also provide private instruction in yoga up to an intermediate level. I have learned a significant amount of alignment for the physical (asana) practice of yoga, and I can generally help beginners a great deal. If you are someone who just beginning yoga, or someone who is fairly comfortable with basic poses and wants to refine your alignment in order to increase strength and body awareness, I can help. Having said that, I know my own limitations and will not teach poses that I can't do myself. In offering this teaching, my first priority is your safety. Finally, I'd like to note that traditional yoga has eight components that include one's entire lifestyle and worldview beyond the physical practice of postures. I am comfortable with referring my students to various psychological and spiritual resources that I may know of which can serve to broaden one's experience of yoga - if I am able to help someone in this way I do not charge for it, nor do I receive any financial benefit from the people or institutions whose information I might share.
