Don't Trust a Word They Say

We hired these people to install a paver patio at our home. They really seemed to know what they were doing and even gave us a three year warranty for the pavers and workmanship. Within 6-7 months the patio settled badly and showed deep depression areas. They came back out to fix it, per the warranty. In their attempt to fix the patio, they made it far worse.

As it settled for a second time, they sent a contractor out to look at the problem. He advised they made a real mess of the installation and subsequent warranty work. He said he would do what it took to satisfy us.

Two weeks went by with no word from these folks. When we called them, we were advised by a secretary that the settling of the patio was not covered under the warranty and they would not honor their work product even though they had already come out once pursuant to the warranty to fix the same problem.

Stay away from these folks at all cost.

Take Caution

We've had two jobs done by Hoosier Home Pros; the first was interior painting (whole house) and I probably would have rated 3.5 stars (Good - Very Good). They worked around our schedule and we were very satisfied with how quickly it got done. Each of the guys on the crew were very nice and even helped move a couple pieces of furniture up the stairs. The price was also very reasonable. The quality was fair for the price I think, but not great. Some of the ceiling lines are not as strait as I would like them to be, there's a few spots where we've had to go back and touch, etc. My biggest complaint was that it appeared that somebody went around the house (doing a spot check maybe?) with paint on their hand as just about every door handle and light switch in the house had paint on it that I had to later scrape off.

The second job is a different story. We had to replace the insulation and drywall in about 1/3 of our garage. I already had this done and just needed somebody to tape, mud, texture, and paint. Hoosier Home Pro said it would be a single day job and could get it done the following Tuesday (it was Friday). Nothing about the project was done right, so here are some of the major issues we had:

1) Additional cost was added on to the original price because of materials that were accidentally left off. On top of this, we were actually charged even more than the new quote and I had to call to have the overage taken off our account. They also said they would charge a deposit of one amount, and initially charged almost the whole job. Other charges were made without any authorization as well.

2) We made it very clear, at the time of the quote, that we needed the job completely done by the next Friday. Even after us questioning them being able to complete the job in a single day (can't paint if the mud is still wet), we were assured that it could, and would be. His 4th visit to work on the garage was the Monday following the Friday it was supposed to be done. After that visit, he still wasn't done and I told him not to come back. The whole thing looked horrible and I didn't want him messing it up worse than it already was.

3) The garage had existing texture. I would have done the whole thing myself had I thought I would be able to match the existing texture; I didn't think I would be able to, so I hired somebody. It doesn't match at all, a completely different pattern was used than the original.

4) There are obvious transitions between the pre-existing drywall and the new. You can also see the lines of the new drywall through the tape, mud, and texture.

5) There were specific areas that I asked to be patched, holes in the wall; weren't even touched.

6) There were clumps of drywall mud on the floor, doors, stair railing, etc.

7) There's splattered paint on EVERYTHING. He didn't cover anything in the garage with plastic or tarps when painting. An entire wall of tools hanging on pegboard has splattered paint on it, furniture that was in the garage and my toddlers wagon has splattered paint, the garage door opener, outlets, light switches, the ceiling lights all have paint on them; I had to replace the lights and switches they were so bad and spent probably 45 minutes trying to clean off the garage door opener, and there's no way I'll ever be able to get all the paint off my tools and cabinets.

I would get home from work, see what had been done, and call the contractor. I'd do my best to try and explain the issues to success. I don't know if he just didn't care, or really couldn't understand what I was saying, but all he would say is "I'll take care of it", to which he never did. 80% of the work he did needs to be completely re-done.

I guess it's just luck of the draw with Hoosier Home Pro, but my first experience was not anywhere near strong enough to counteract the second, so I simply say to take caution if using them.
