I had a hard drive (C) fail. The computer would not boot up. While I had it in their shop, the tech hooked up a cable to that drive and we watched on another monitor and saw that most, is not all of my files were still there. So I left them the computer to transfer what files were there to a new hard drive. When I got the computer home and hooked it up, powered on and took a look at my 30 years worth of data and it is just garbage. The tech acted like that was just how it came out and it was going to come out garbage no matter what. I could not believe this guys attitude. I argued with him about both of us seeing the data on the drive BEFORE he copied it over to the new drive. Something bad happened during the data transfer, specifically this guy's incompetence and recklessness in protecting a customer's data. I run a small photography business and now there are files (pictures) that are gone forever. What do I tell these people ... the ones looking for their recent pictures. And times that by a factor of 75, because I lost my entire collection of client photos.

Now I've had 38 years in the computer industry, finished my career as a Software System Engineer. I know how things operate and this guy is telling me the data transfer worked and what I got on my new drive is what was on my old drive. He is a lying sack of dodo. We both saw the files and folders on the old drive and how they ended up so scrambled on the new drive is purely incompetence of this guys ability to work around computers. My guess would be that he has no, or very little experience with computers period. He acts like he does but don't let "Mel Witharana" within a mile of your computer. He knows not what he is doing.

I have lost 10s of thousands of hours of work that was on my computer. Now there is only garbage, totally useless. And "Mel" just shrugs his shoulders. Somehow he 'wrote' to the old drive, producing garbage, while he was doing whatever transfer he was using. I know that the process should have NEVER touched/wrote to the old drive. It was a simple copy routine from the old drive to the new drive, but somehow "Mel", in all of his incompetence managed to screw up a simple disk to disk copy.

I have bits and pieces of backups on other hard drives but nothing that will recover all of the data that "Mel" scrambled. I have a regular backup (system image) that I do weekly, but for some reason that backup won't work now. Wouldn't you know it? "Mel" scrambled 30 years worth of work with just a shrug of 'Shit Happens' ... and my backup failed at the most inoperate time.

Do not take your computer for repair at "Mel's" place ... "Janadhi & Company". I would have more confidence in my neighbor geek kid than I do in "Mel". For your computer's sake, and for all the work you've put into your data not to mention your "Peace Of Mind", just avoid this place like the plague.
