Founded in 1963, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center is a mental retardation research facility that offers services in the areas of genetics and neuroscience. The center serves families, educators, health care providers and individuals with developmental disabilities. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center organizes music and summer camps for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders. The center conducts research for the prevention of diseases. It has affiliations with the U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation and Dan Marino Foundation. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center is a member of the national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service.
