New England Learning Center for Women in Transition, also known as NELCWIT, offers shelter, counseling and advocacy services for women and children who have survived domestic violence and sexual abuse. The center also offers educational services for schools, professionals and other groups. It holds support groups on several topics, including assertiveness, sexual assault and relationship issues. Founded in 1979, the center organizes educational workshops and presentations for employers, social clubs, professional organizations, churches and health care providers. Additionally, the center operates English and Spanish hotlines. Its certified advocates work with courts and other criminal justice agencies to assist the victims of domestic violence. Established in 1976, NELCWIT is located in Greenfield, Mass.
