Our birth was very violent, and Marimikel (the midwife) wrote inaccurate birth notes. We would try to contest them but the only witnesses were her apprentices, who are way too afraid of her to ever stand up to her. While she has some gentle, loving tendencies, she was not this way at our birth but instead was aggressive and bordered on the line of assaultive. We worked hard at developing a birth plan to empower ourselves for the birth. One of two things happened, neither of which is acceptable. Either: a) she straight up did not read it at all or b) she read it and deliberately countered against every single wish we had. For example, we specified the birthing mother be able to choose the labor method of her choice (i.e. breathing, moaning, chanting, whatever), but when we did this Marimkel would not accept it and insisted we use only her special method. She advertises as someone who let's people choose, but when it came down to the wire, she was persistent the opposite way and as there was no time to go anywhere else by that point, we were trapped. It's been a long time now and we finally worked up the courage to write about this birth, mostly because we actually felt bad about doing it, on account of the times she was nice to us, but the fact of the matter is, we have post traumatic stress disorder because of this birth and we needed to get it off our chests.
