Provided by SuperpagesIt is with a sad heart that we post this review. We feel as though others should know the experience we had with Petropolis. On three separate occasions, we employed Petropolis. The first two occasions we had no reason to believe anything was amiss. The owner was usually in email communication with us, especially if something prohibited her from staying the entire time with our beloved cat. We were only made aware of one such instance during the first two times we hired the company and we were understanding. The third time we hired Petropolis, we received no such communication. The third time, in May 2019, we were made aware of problems. We contracted Petropolis to visit our cat in our home two times daily, once in the morning and once in the evening for a length of 30-45 minutes each visit, retrieve mail, etc. Unfortunately, the contracted service was not received. Petropolis was to arrive during scheduled time frames in the morning and evening. Petropolis should have spent a minimum of eight full hours in our home caring for our cat over the course of the contract. Unfortunately, Petropolis was only in our home three hours and 13 minutes over 16 scheduled visits. With this, the mail was only brought in in two occasions. On our first full day of vacation, we began receiving oddly timed security notifications. This prompted us to check our security cameras. Upon review, we observed the owner of the company sitting and constantly playing/typing on her phone, never speaking. Our cat would walk over to her and beg for attention. She, in turn, would scruff our cat's head for a mere moment and go right back to her phone. We also found Petropolis visited only 15 times and stayed an average of 12 minutes per visit. Out of fear of no visits at all, we did not reach out to the company owner until our arrival home when we sent an email asking for the return of our key. Twelve days and several emails later, we still did not have our key. We did, however, receive several excuses as to why it had not been returned. After changing our locks, we sent an email to the owner of Petropolis detailing our dissatisfaction. We also relayed that we expected a partial refund and cancelled an upcoming reservation. It was not until we returned, requested our key several times, and expressed our dissatisfaction that we were told she had been in an automobile accident and suffered an injury. We were also advised that while she was pet sitting our cat, she was constantly talking on the phone with her daughter, "in case something happened." Regarding the delay of our key return, we were told she was out of town, had a death in the family, had an event to attend, etc. There was also something to delay the meeting. We are sympathetic to her for the injury she sustained in the car accident and wish her our deepest condolences for the loss of a family member. However, it would have been prudent to reach out to us and advise that there had been a situation which resulted in the reduced capacity to uphold the terms of the contract. That never took place. We do hope that Petropolis uses this as a lesson learned. Communication is key. Petropolis readily agreed to refund our payment in its entirety upon receipt of our initial email. Nine days later, we sent a gentle reminder requesting our expected refund. She sent the money as a "service" through PayPal and we were charged a fee. We informed her and she refused to send the fee stating, "When you sent me the money, it charged me a fee as well. I would say we are even." Petropolis does business through PayPal. We do not. We disagreed we were "even" and explained why. After we began filing a dispute with PayPal, Petropolis did send the fee amount without any additional services fees attached.
