BEWARE: The Labrador colors besides black, yellow, and chocolate are all made through a process called Color Dilution. It causes Color Dilution Alopecia which is a horrible skin condition where huge patches of fur fall out and your dogs skin is very susceptible to infection. Their hair follicles are unable to repair themselves and there is no cure. We love our dog very much but have spent an insurmountable amount of money trying to figure out was wrong and now treating it the best we can to make sure he doesn’t get infections. I have attached photos of my dog’s fur.

We bought Luca 2 years ago from Silvermist Labs, Kelly was wonderful before and after. Luca is an awesome addition to our family. Thanks, Silvermist for such a great pup!

In my opinion, Silver Mist puppies are being raised in an environment where they are subject to infection, fungus, parasites and worms that are easily transmittable and the breeder is well aware of this situation. When we received our puppy at 8 weeks she weighed 4.4lbs and was very lethargic, small and visibly under weight. She didn't eat for the first 24 hours and was unable to consume hard food for the first two weeks we had her!

There were patches of fur missing around the eyes, snout and mouth and the skin was pink and inflamed. We contacted Silver Mist labs the day after receiving her to discuss ways to increase Piper’s weight and to help with the overall health of the puppy. Her first response was to have the puppy returned at a full refund if we weren't happy. That was NOT the solution we were looking for.

We immediately contacted our vet and got her in right away. She weighed in at 4.7 pounds at almost 9 weeks of age, her fur was mottled, especially around the muzzle, she had mildly inflamed swollen toe nail beds and infected ears. Official diagnosis was Pyoderma (bacterial skin infection), possible Demodectic mange, an ear infection and coccidia (parasites). The vet confirmed skin infection, ear infection and the amount of coccidia were due to unclean and unhygienic environment.

A week later our vet called with confirmation that the culture he took from the skin scrapings was positive for RINGWORM, which is extremely contagious and transmittable to humans. It was heartbreaking knowing that our puppy came to us so sickly after the long and exciting process of picking her out with our children. She continues to be on antibiotics and medication since we received her.

Piper is the sweetest little lab and we love her with all our hearts. But knowing how sick she was and the living conditions she was exposed to is not was we expected from the AKC approved breeder Silver Mist Labradors.
