Science Academy was established in 1989 and provides a variety of academic programs in math and science streams to students in grades nine through 12. The academy offers programs in architecture, engineering and computer science. It also provides various programs in partnerships with the Rice University, the Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of Texas-Pan American and the South Texas College. The academy is approved by the Texas Education Agency and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Science Academy is a part of the South Texas Independent School District that serves junior high and high school students. Its libraries have collection of more than 70,000 books, 5,000 videos and 50 Web databases. Science Academy is located in Mercedes, Texas.
