Working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities can be a challenge for many. However, it is also inspiring, especially if it is a passion. It is vital that staff express, utilize and exhibit the best practices such as: (appropriate terms, listening skills, right approach and insight) when assisting this awesome population. This includes treating these individuals with normalcy, as well as providing inclusion. In other words, opening a pathway for embracement by the community and providing any avenue in society for an opportunity to feel normal.
