Six weeks ago I came to you with pages of notes and ramblings about my career to date and a resume that dated back to 1997. I was laid off from a job of 12 years, had a family to support, and not a clue on how to put together a resume by today's standards--or yesterday's for that matter! You patiently sat with me, questioned me at length, and somehow managed to pull all of the salient information out of me regarding my career in accounting. The final outcome was a resume and cover letter so impressive that I received 4 inquiries in 6 weeks and was just made an offer by a privately held company that far exceeds what I was making at Burrows! I am a 58 yr old man entering the job search market for the first time in 20 years. My idea of a resume was just as dated as my job searching skills. I went to Ms. Hakim at the recommendation of a friend and she created 3 different resumes that I could use based upon my fields of interest and the positions I was targeting. I was amazed at how good she made my experience sound and she was able to put into words, succinctly but positively, the skills I have acquired over 27 years working. I am a music producer by trade and am just beginning to experience some success selling my music. By far, my skills lay in producing, not in marketing my music or authoring correspondence to music studios, publicists, managers, agents, and the like. I needed someone who could present my skills and talents in a professional light that would also grab the attention of the recipients, who are accustomed to getting huge quantities of unsolicited mail on a regular basis that regularly ends up in their circular files. Ms. Hakim was able to create some basic templates for me to go to different target audiences, which were attention grabbers, and were different enough from standard business correspondence to generate enough interest that I've received calls from 1 agent, 2 publishers, and a few studios. While I know my music is what will sell them, I had to get a foot in the door to grab their attention and Joanne was able to market my abilities through friendly, professional correspondence that was fresh and appealing. I will definitely go back to her in the future for all my writing needs that go beyond enclosure memos!
