Dover Township Police Department provides law enforcement services to the City of Toms River, N.J. Its primary duties include crime prevention, protection of life and property, suppression of criminal activity, apprehension and prosecution of offenders and preservation of public peace. The department has several specialty divisions, including K-9, scuba, bicycle and emergency services. Its detective bureau is responsible for the follow-up on all crimes reported within the township. The detectives also work with surrounding towns and outside agencies, such as the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey State Police, FBI, IRS and Secret Service. Toms River is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Dover Township and is the county seat of Ocean County in New Jersey. It has a population of nearly 90,000 residents.
